OPPOSITION – Two Sides of the Same Coin
Our Current Congressional Representative for the Florida 13th Congressional District has consistently voted for the failed policies of President George W. Bush in Iraq and against responsible redeployment of our troops and civilian personnel. He voted for allowing waterboarding and against minimum periods of rest and recuperation for our armed forces between deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On issues of particular interest to FL13, our current Congressional representative has repeatedly voted against stem cell research. On the other hand, he voted for an amendment to prohibit federal funds from being made available to Planned Parenthood for any purpose under Title X of the Public Health Services Act. Our current Congressman voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act, the Hate Crimes Prevention Act and the Employee Free Choice Act. He has likewise opposed renewable energy and conservation tax incentives, renewal and expansion of Head Start Programs, and reauthorization of HOPE VI. With respect to the alternative minimum tax crucial to so many taxpayers in FL13, he initially voted against the Temporary Tax Relief Act of 2007 and did not sign on until “pay-as-you-go” provisions (mostly cracking down on offshore tax avoidance by hedge fund managers) were eliminated.

Likewise, the Washington Democratic Party insider Opponent of our current representative was asked upon announcement of her candidacy how she would have voted on the Iraq troop withdrawal bill passed a few days earlier. Consistent with her earlier equivocal stances on most substantive issues, she declared herself “not sure whether she would have voted for it” and generally refused to take any position calling for change. With respect to campaign tactics, that candidate has demonstrated shameful hypocrisy in criticizing others while failing for as long as three years to pay over $100,000 in payroll taxes, instead diverting withheld funds to her own campaign purposes.

By contrast, Jan Schneider has acted with demonstrable integrity and engages in clean campaigning. As an independent, she will rise above partisan divides to work for the best interests of the people of this country and the FL13.
