It's about the war and our vanishing middle class!
Iraq War. Jan Schneider is a forceful advocate for responsible redeployment out of Iraq -- commencing immediately. Our military has accomplished outstanding successes. It is time to recognize that the remaining tasks of political reconstruction must rest with the Iraqis themselves.
Economy. The United States economy is threatened by recession. Our federal government must take more aggressive actions, including: creating emergency housing funds, stopping the abuses that led to the subprime mortgage disaster, prohibiting predatory practices by credit card companies, providing emergency assistance to families devastated by burgeoning energy costs, investing in efficient alternative energy technologies, and modernizing unemployment compensation and job creation programs. More broadly, a viable middle class is essential to democracy, and ours is being squeezed out of existence.
In the Florida 13th Congressional District, it's also about Seniors, Veterans, Women and Working Families.
Seniors: FL13 has the second highest number of Social Security recipients in the country, and Jan Schneider adamantly opposes privatization. Jan will also act to preserve Medicare on a fiscally sound basis and to expand its basic principles into a single-payer national health insurance system.
Veterans: Jan fights for those who fight for us. Jan supports quality veterans' healthcare, education benefits that keep pace with escalating costs, and other promised benefits. She will also work to find solutions to the plight of our 400,000+ homeless veterans.
Women and Families: Jan will work to improve our national healthcare system, currently beset by more than 47 million uninsured. She also supports legislation relating to the rights of women and minorities that our current Congressman opposes.
Disabilities: In addition, FL13 has well over 100,000 persons with physical and mental challenges, and funding of special assistance programs to enhance their independence must be high priority.

Jan Schneider is a Yale-educated lawyer with a PhD in political science from Yale and a wealth of experience in several areas of law and politics.
Jan has an impressive background as a practicing lawyer, law professor, international civil servant and policy advisor. She is the author of two books and dozens of articles on the environment, as well as many articles and op-ed pieces on international relations, homeland security, education and other topics. She has served as an officer and director on numerous national and local boards.
With respect to the Opposition, our current Congressional representative has steadfastly supported the failed policies of President George W. Bush in Iraq and has voted against veterans, women, seniors and the middle class.
Jan has acted with demonstrable integrity and engages in clean campaigning. As an independent, she will rise above partisan divides to work for the best interests of the people of this country and the FL13.
